Lead-in

This pre-intermediate ESL lesson begins with seven questions about robots, such as “What is a robot?” and “Can robots help people?” It includes a brief definition of what a humanoid robot is, so your students understand the concept. Afterward, students review a list of suggested actions and activities, describing what robots can or cannot do with explanations. The final part of this section shows a large image of the humanoid robot G1, prompting the question, “What do you think this robot can do?”

Video, Summary

Next, students watch a short video about the G1 humanoid robot, showcasing its abilities and features. While watching, they take notes, and afterward, they discuss their notes with classmates. After the video, students are presented with nine screenshots from the video and must look at the pictures and use the provided words on the right-hand side to describe what the G1 robot can do. Feel free to assist them as needed.

Reading, True or false

The reading section includes an activity where students read a short text and fill in the blanks with the activities the robot can do. This is a great chance to reinforce what they learned from the video and previous slides, ensuring they fully understand the material. The page also introduces a few challenging words, like “obstacles” and “surfaces,” which you may need to explain. The next activity is a true or false exercise, where students read eight statements about the G1 robot, decide if they are true or false, and provide explanations for their answers.

Discussion, Role-play

The discussion page includes three follow-up questions about the video and features two images of the G1 robot fixing and cooking. Students are asked to discuss their favorite feature of the G1 robot, its potential uses at home, and other tasks they would like it to do. The next activity is a role-play, where students pair up and choose a robot from the pictures. One student describes the robot’s features, while the other asks questions. Feel free to give them as much time as needed, and encourage students to take turns and challenge each other with interesting questions.

Homework

The homework page includes a project where students draw a picture of a robot they would like to see in the future. They should show its features and describe how it helps people. In the next lesson, students will present their drawings or designs to the class and explain their ideas.

This A2 ESL lesson on the G1 robot is available in Light, Dark, and A4 printable formats, making it suitable for various classroom settings. The lesson introduces students to the G1 robot’s features through a video, followed by activities that include filling in blanks, true/false statements, and role-play. Students will discuss the robot’s abilities, complete a drawing project for homework, and present their ideas to the class. This lesson is ideal for learners who want to practice descriptive language and improve their speaking skills through engaging and interactive tasks.
