Lead-in, Reading

This B2 ESL business class focuses on how to pitch an idea. It begins with some warm-up questions, including what a pitch is, why pitching is an important skill in business, and what strategies can make a pitch more engaging. Then, if necessary, students discuss the definition of a pitch on the next slide and talk about several common types of pitches. Additionally, there is a reading section where students can read examples of pitches and identify which type each one represents, including elevator pitches, sales pitches, investor pitches, and product or service pitches.

Vocabulary, Listening, Comprehension

Following that, students will engage in a vocabulary exercise where they match words with their definitions. This activity will prepare them for the upcoming listening exercise. Next, they will listen to an audio clip on the following slide that focuses on elevator pitches. As they listen, students will answer three key questions to check their understanding. Additionally, they will retell the main points of the audio using key vocabulary words to reinforce their comprehension.

Speaking

The final part of this ESL lesson is dedicated to practicing speaking skills. Students will create and present an elevator pitch for a product or service. The structured framework provided on the slide will guide them, ensuring that their pitches are both engaging and clear. Each pitch will consist of an introduction, insight, value creation, superiority, and a conclusion. Additionally, each slide will showcase three images of different products, providing inspiration for their presentations. Students will also have the exciting opportunity to present their own product ideas to the class, encouraging creativity and confidence in public speaking.
