Lead-in

The lesson begins with a lead-in activity where students discuss their grocery shopping routines. They’ll answer questions about their preferences and where they typically shop. Students will then examine pictures of various store types—Supermarkets, Grocery Stores, Online Stores, Farmers’ Markets, and Convenience Stores—and describe details in each picture. This will lead to discussions about the differences between these stores.

Vocabulary Practice, Name 5

Students will explore vocabulary through matching exercises where they link 10 pictures to the corresponding words. They’ll also match 6 grocery store sections with the items sold there. Teachers should explain any challenging vocabulary. A fun practice activity called “Name 5” requires students to brainstorm five words related to different supermarket sections, reinforcing vocabulary retention and creative thinking.

Reading Activity

In the reading section, students read statements about supermarkets and guess which one is false. Key vocabulary is used in context to enhance understanding. Students will also learn about supermarket-related items like aisle, cart, checkout, reusable bag, and shelf through a focused vocabulary slide. The vocabulary practice concludes with “Unscramble the Sentence,” where students rearrange words into correct sentences using the lesson vocabulary.

Discussion, Writing

The lesson wraps up with two interactive activities: Agree or Disagree: Students engage in discussions, expressing their opinions on various shopping-related topics, providing ample speaking practice. Writing Activity: Students create a shopping list for a specific event, applying their newly acquired vocabulary.
