Start with the lead-in on slide 2. Read the short explanation of what Black Friday is, then let pairs discuss the four questions. Even students who don’t celebrate Thanksgiving usually know about Black Friday sales, so most will have something to say. The ranking activity on slide 3 is a good follow-up. Students look at products with prices and discounts, rank what they’d buy, and explain why. This gets them using basic shopping language before the new vocabulary comes in.

Move to the vocabulary matching on slide 4. Ten expressions are listed with definitions, and students match them up. Go through the answers together, then head straight into the practice on slide 5. This exercise asks students to answer situational questions using a target word in brackets. For example, “You’re worried about overspending. How can you prepare?” with the prompt “set a budget.” Do the first one together so B1 students see how much detail you’re looking for. Pairs work well here.

The video on slide 6 is only one minute long. Play it twice and have students note the five tips. Then they fill in the comprehension blanks on slide 7 and add one tip of their own. The true or false and error correction exercises on slides 8 and 9 are quick but effective. The error correction is especially good for B1 learners because the mistakes involve prepositions and common grammar slips that feel natural to spot at this level.

Wrap up with the discussion questions on slide 10. These circle back to the vocabulary and get students talking about their own shopping habits. The question about shipping delays usually gets some good stories, and the one comparing big box retailers to local shops tends to split opinions nicely.
