Kick things off with the lead-in questions about breakfast habits. Most B1 students can talk about their own morning routine without too much trouble, so this is a nice confidence builder. After a few minutes of pair discussion, move to the ranking activity where students order five international breakfasts from most to least appetizing. This usually gets a good reaction, especially when students disagree. Encourage them to explain their choices using simple phrases like “I’d try this because…” or “This doesn’t look good to me.”

The egg vocabulary and matching exercises come next. Go through the six egg types with the pictures first, then have students match the eight vocabulary words to their definitions. Words like “savory,” “originate,” and “customize” are useful beyond this lesson, so spend a minute or two on pronunciation and example sentences. Check answers as a class and clear up any confusion before moving on.

The video section is the heart of this lesson. Students watch three short clips of breakfast dishes from around the world, write down ingredients they spot, and share opinions about each dish. Pause after each video so students have time to compare notes with a partner. After the videos, the “this or that” activity keeps energy up. Students pick between options like sweet or savory breakfast and explain their choice. This works well in pairs or small groups.

Finish with the cooking activity where students choose ingredients from a list to build their own breakfast. They describe what they’d make and how they’d prepare it. For homework, students write up a breakfast recipe from their country, which gives them writing practice and a chance to share something personal next class.
