Lead-In, Pair work, True or False

This conversational A2 lesson begins with several lead-in questions about money and shopping habits. Next, students will talk with a partner about prices in their country or city and compare those prices to their local area. Following this discussion, there will be a true or false exercise where students read statements related to their country and determine whether they are true or false, providing explanations for their answers.

Vocabulary match, Vocabulary practice, Would you rather

The main focus of this ESL lesson is to learn vocabulary related to money, featuring key verbs such as “borrow money,” “make money,” “save money,” and “spend money,” etc. Students will begin by completing a vocabulary matching exercise to familiarize themselves with these terms. Next, they will practice using the vocabulary by reading sentences and underlining the correct words in context. Finally, a speaking exercise will allow students to engage in a fun “Would you rather” activity, helping them to apply the new vocabulary in a conversational setting.

Reading

There is also a reading exercise where students can practice their reading skills by filling in the blanks with the missing words, which helps them reinforce the vocabulary. This reading section is followed by several questions for students to answer.

Speaking, Discussion, Quote

The final part of this lesson focuses on speaking. Students will be provided with several scenarios, each involving a specific amount of money. They will need to describe what they would do with the money and explain their choices. Scenarios include things like planning a weekend trip, spending money on a hobby, cooking a meal, or gifting a friend. There will also be a discussion exercise where students complete sentences with their own ideas. Finally, the lesson concludes with a thought-provoking quote for students to discuss.
